The LaGrange County SWCD consists of 5 board members; three elected and two appointed. There are currently four staff members and one NRCS District Conservationist employed in the LaGrange County office.

 



Richard Yoder

Richard Yoder is chairman of the SWCD board. He recently retired after 44 years of farming and raising hogs. He still works with his son Russ to farm 1,700 acres. Richard and his wife Sharon, along with Russ and his wife Kristi, own and operate Yoder Popcorn. Richard serves on the Emma Church Council, on the board of directors for Archbold Equipment, and on the board of directors for the LaGrange County Food and Clothes Basket.

  

 

  

 

R.D. Wolheter

R.D. graduated from Purdue in 1971 and started farming in 1974, which was the worst year in his farming career. He started no-tilling in 1981 and now no-tills approximately 3,000 acres of corn and soybeans with his son Neal. R.D. has been a SWCD supervisor since 1994 and was an associate supervisor for nearly 10 years prior to that. He is also active with the South Milford Lions Club, a LaGrange County Farm Bureau board member, and serves on several other boards as well. He had the honor of being selected as an Indiana Master Farmer in 2009. R.D. and Julia, his wife of 34 years, have a son Neal (& Lydia) Wolheter, and daughter Kara (& Matt) Dunker, and four grandchildren (Reese, Breanna, Quinlynn and Nolan).

 

Monroe Raber

Monroe has been married to his wife Naomi for 36 years. They have two daughters, SuEtta and Erma, and twin sons, Gerald and Derald. Monroe and his family live on 20 acres in Eden Township. He is employed at Jayco RV in Middlebury, IN. Monroe's hobbies include hunting and fishing and taking care of the wood lot on his property. He has served on the Watershed Committee for the past 7 years and has been an SWCD Supervisor since February 2011.

 

Bob Cart

Bob is a lifetime resident of LaGrange County. He farms 45 acres located in Johnson Township and participates in several conservation programs. Bob has been employed by Westview School Corporation as bus mechanic since 1984. He has served on the SWCD Board since 2010.

 

Dona Hunter

Dona will be retiring from the SWCD as District Coordinator after over 25 years. Born in Muncie, Indiana, she started coming to the lakes in LaGrange County when she was very young, spending summers on Westler Lake until moving with her family permanently when she was in third grade. After getting married to her husband Lowell, they lived in Huntington for about 7 years and then moved back to Oliver Lake where they have lived since 1973. She is looking forward to spending more time relaxing on the lake after retirement and spending time with their family, including her 8 grandchildren.

 

Martin Franke

Martin has worked for the LaGrange County SWCD since early 2005, serving as the district technician / educator. Martin graduated from Lakeland High School in 1983. He received a B.A. in history from Indiana University in 1987. Martin spent the years of 1987-1988 doing voluntary service in a Canadian Residential School. In 1990, Martin married Christine Sensenig from Ephrata, PA and worked as a musuem director in Eastern Pennsylvania for 4-1/2 years, then following their moved to Indiana taught school for 6 years. Martin and Christine along with their three children-Arthur, Maggie and Hans-operate a small fruit and vegetable farm part-time.

 

Marsha Bogado

Marsha joined the LaGrange County SWCD staff in May 2011 as part-time District Clerk. She grew up on a hog farm in LaGrange County and currently lives with her husband several miles from her home farm. Marsha spent 4 years as a missionary in the Dominican Republic. She enjoys gardening, reading and travelling with her husband to visit his family in Paraguay. 

 

Julie Diehm

Julie grew up (and still lives) on a small farm near Wolcottville, Indiana. Her involvement with the LaGrange SWCD began in 1990, after her husband Mark was hired to work out of that office as a Resource Specialist with IDNR. She continued to volunteer and work on a few grant projects for the District until she was hired part-time in 1996. In 2005, Julie began working with SNRT as a Natural Resource Technician and Lab Manager in cooperation with the District. She presently continues to work part-time as Program Assistant, doing many different functions for the District along with her SNRT duties. Julie still does volunteer work as an Advanced Master Gardener with Purdue and Master Naturalist with IDNR. She specializes in teaching all ages about "Wild Edibles."

                 

Morina Strater

Morina is a senior at Prairie Heights High School. She is working with the District through the I.C.E. program which allows High School Seniors to work for half a day and attend school the other half of the day. Morina is active in golf, theatre, and her church youth group. After completing high school, Morina is planning on attending IPFW to major in physical therapy.

  

 

Derek Thompson

Derek grew up on a grain and dairy farm in Noble County. He attended Purdue University and graduated in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in Agriculture Economics. Derek worked for the Dekalb County SWCD for 3 years and has been the District Conservationist in LaGrange County since 2010. Derek farms with his dad in Noble County, raising about 1,000 acres of corn, soybeans and hay, and milking about 45-50 Holstein cows.
