Supervisory Board
Each county SWCD in the state of Indiana is directed by a 5 member board who are individually known as "SWCD Supervisors." Three of these supervisors are elected on a rotating basis at an annual public meeting held by each district. LaGrange County SWCD holds its Annual Meeting every year in mid-February. The other two supervisors are appointed by the Indiana State Soil Conservation Board, which solicits information and advice from local districts in making their appointments.
In order to qualify as an elected supervisor, one must be of legal voting age, must occupy a tract of land greater than 10 acres within the district of election, and must also maintain permanent residence within the district where elected. Appointed supervisors must be of legal voting age, and must maintain permanent residence within the district of their appointment.
Monthly public board meetings are held during which supervisors make decisions that allow the normal business and conservation activities of the district to continue. Supervisors also shape policies which affect the short and long term direction of district staff operations.
